Water Treatment Plant Operator
Under supervision of the Water Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor, operates surface water treatment plant equipment to adequately supply a clean potable water that meets all State and Federal requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Regulates the flow of raw water into treatment plant, as determined by system demand.
- Performs all required process control analysis and chemical testing.
- Regulates specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, alum, polymer, lime, phosphate, carbon, fluoride, sodium permanganate, etc.
- Regulates filtration process including proper flow, pressure, and backwashing.
- Monitors and maintains proper water levels in storage tanks and clearwells through the use of the SCADA system and equipment.
- Calculates and records hourly data for EPD reporting and internal records maintenance.
- Operates sludge siphon equipment and cleans sedimentation basins at scheduled intervals.
- Monitors equipment performance and reports any malfunctions, and may assist with minor repairs.
- Responsible for maintenance of the chemical and treatment buildings, as assigned.
Schedule is an overnight shift and may include weekends and holidays. Starting salary range is $42,700 - $57,500.00, depending on class level and experience.
Education and/or Experience: Must have a high school diploma or GED. At least one-year relevant experience preferred. Must be licensed by the State of Georgia as a Class I, II, or III Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Georgia Driver's License.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
