Valve Maintenance Techncian

The Water Valve Maintenance Technician is responsible for locating, maintaining accessibility, and ensuring the effective operation of all water valves within the HCWA system. This role involves conducting routine inspections, implementing preventive maintenance schedules, and troubleshooting valve issues to prevent disruptions in the water supply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for locating, maintaining accessibility, and ensuring the effective operation of all water valves within the HCWA system.
  • Utilizes tools such as a valve wrench or an E.H. Wach’s valve exerciser to efficiently manipulate water valves and maintain optimal functionality throughout the HCWA system.
  • Assists in establishing safe work zones by coordinating required traffic control.
  • Conducts routine inspections of water valve systems to identify signs of damage, leaks, or malfunctioning components.
  • Participates in preventive maintenance schedules to ensure properly functioning valves.
  • Troubleshoots valve problems using diagnostic tools and techniques to identify root causes. Repairs or replaces defective valves, valve boxes, risers, operation nuts, and other components as needed.
  • Maintains detailed records of maintenance activities, including inspection reports, repair logs, and equipment inventory, to track schedules and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Coordinates with other maintenance technicians to schedule repairs, share knowledge, and prioritize tasks effectively. Communicates findings and recommendations to supervisors and team members as necessary.
  • Stays informed about advancements in valve technology, maintenance techniques, and industry best practices through training programs and professional development opportunities. Applies acquired knowledge to enhance job performance.
  • Interacts professionally with customers to address inquiries, provide technical assistance, and ensure satisfaction. Communicates maintenance schedules, updates, and recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Provides assistance to other crews in the department as needed.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Georgia Driver's License.  Flagging Certification, Competent Person Certification, and Confined Space Certification or the ability to obtain all within twelve (12) months.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
