To honor former General Manager Lindy D. Farmer, Jr., who was the first General Manager of the Henry County Water Authority and served in this leadership role for 40 years, making him the longest tenured water utility chief executive in the state of Georgia at the time of his retirement in 2022.
The Public Use Area known as “Tussahaw Island,” which is the site of the Lindy Farmer Reservoir dedication ceremony, opened in May of 2010. Thus, it is celebrating its 15th year anniversary. In addition, this marks the 20th anniversary of the completion of construction on the Tussahaw Reservoir.
The Lindy D. Farmer, Jr. Reservoir is 1,466 acres in size and holds 9.78 billion gallons of water at full pool. The reservoir supplies raw water for finished drinking water production at the Tussahaw Water Treatment Plant.
The Farmer Reservoir Public Use Area (Tussahaw Island) has boat ramps for anglers, one of which accessible to citizens with disabilities, in addition to a walking trail around its perimeter, outdoor pavilions, restrooms, and plentiful parking. One of the newest amenities near the main boat ramp of the facility is a life jacket station, which offers free life jackets for anglers and guests to assure safe boating on the reservoir. Safe Boating Week is being recognized nationally this year during the week of May 17-23, 2025.
